Mosquito Fish Available
Hermiston - The West Umatilla Vector Control District has begun distributing mosquito fish as part of the districts biological control program.
Gambusia affinis, commonly referred to as mosquito fish, are a small minnow that thrive on mosquito larvae. A few of these fish placed in a mosquito breeding source can help control mosquitoes for the entire summer.
If you have an ornamental pond, irrigation pond, stock trough, or other self contained source of standing water that has the potential to breed mosquitoes you are encouraged to stock it with mosquito fish.
Mosquito fish can be picked up at the district facility on South First Street in Hermiston. If you need mosquito fish please call the vector control hotline at 567-5201. Mosquito fish are only available to residents of Umatilla County. Residents of surrounding counties should contact their local vector control program for mosquito fish.
This number is also available for any questions regarding the districts mosquito control program. You can also visit the West Umatilla Vector Control District web site for additional information.
